Membership Program Intern Job Description
ISAR is a nonprofit organization that promotes citizen participation and the development of the nongovernmental sector in the countries of the former Soviet Union (FSU). ISAR’s offices in the United States and Eurasia support citizen activists and grassroots nongovernmental organizations in their efforts to create just and sustainable societies.
ISAR is looking for an intern to assist in the development of its membership program and related programmatic materials. As this person supports membership activities and explores new ways to connect with the membership and the public, he/she will have the chance to learn more about ISAR’s programs in DC and the FSU. Under the supervision of the membership team, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:
•Handling requests by members and non-members for informational materials (including ISAR’s quarterly journal, Give & Take);
•Under the supervision of the membership coordinator, managing membership mailings and other correspondence with individual members;
•Researching new opportunities for the membership program to develop and expand;
•Developing the informational resources offered for members and non-members, including programmatic information.
Aside from these programmatic tasks, the intern will be responsible for various office tasks including, but not limited to, answering the phone, filing and assisting other staff as needed.
The internship will provide students and recent graduates with excellent opportunities to:
•Acquire more knowledge of issues in the former Soviet Union (FSU);
•Learn about NGOs and develop a greater understanding of NGO work;
•Gain practical experience in program work;
•Gain administrative experience;
•Establish useful contacts.
Desired Qualifications:
•Interest and knowledge in the FSU;
•Strong writing skills;
•Knowledge of one or more languages of the FSU;
•An interest in NGOs;
•Experience with Macintosh computers and applications (Word, Pagemaker, Filemaker, Internet);
•Previous office experience.
Terms:
•Starting in late May, early June with part time commitment required;
•Unpaid, with local travel reimbursement.
