The FSAFLEX Alumni Office is currently accepting proposals from
charitable and non-profitable organizations to be the beneficiaries
of the 3rd Annual Spring Charity Ball in April 2000. The Charity
Ball is organized by alumni of exchange programs sponsored by the
United States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. These
alumni are students, business people, journalists, teachers,
professors and politicians. In addition to their American exchange
experience, they are united by their desire to undertake charity work
to help improve their community.

Last year, $2,513 was raised to remodel four rooms at the Kashirskaya
Children's Cancer Center. This money was used to purchase blinds for
all the rooms, televisions, VCRs, cassettes, and toys. Alumni also
spent three weekends at the center repainting a long hallway. In
1998, $2,100 was given to Dmitry Shparo's Explorer Club for its
cleanup of Mt. Elbrus.

All the proceeds from entrance fees and a prize lottery at the ball
are given to the chosen charity, while costs for the ball are covered
by donations from sponsors.

Proposals from potential ball beneficiaries will be accepted until
February 21st. The proposal should outline how the organization
would spend $2,000-2,500. The proposal should include background
about the organization, an overview of the project to be sponsored,
information of other successful projects the organization has
executed, long-term benefits of the project, an itemized budget and
contact information. Ideally, the organization will be one that
could foster a long-term relationship with alumni or a project in
which alumni could participate.

Given that Moscow alumni are organizing this charity event, we would
like the project to benefit the Moscow community. Please include
information about these points in your proposal. The ball
beneficiary will be selected by March.

Charitable and non-profit organizations interested in being the
beneficiary of the third annual charity ball should submit a proposal
to the FSAFLEX Alumni Office. The Alumni Office is operated by the
American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS and
provides logistical support for alumni activities. Alumni from
several programs will review the projects and recommend their
favorites to ACTR staff. ACTR staff will then present the three best
proposals to the US Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which
will make the final project determination.

If you know of other organizations that might be appropriate
beneficiaries of the charity ball, please share this information with
them. Businesses or organizations interested in being Charity Ball
sponsors are also invited to contact Jennifer Jones or Anastasiia
Oborotova in the FSAFLEX Alumni Office.
