The Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) at the Monterey
Institute of International Studies (MIIS) is seeking a Senior
Research Associate and Research Associate for the Newly Independent
States Nonproliferation Project databases group.

The NIS Nonproliferation Databases cover a wide range of
nonproliferation topics, with a special emphasis on nuclear
nonproliferation and nuclear materials control in the former Soviet
Union. The databases are widely used by academic institutions,
governments, and nongovernmental and intergovernmental organizations.
Research Associate tasks include data collection and analysis,
database maintenance, and supervision of graduate research
assistants.

Senior Research Associate tasks include, in addition to the above,
assisting in the management of the databases, hiring graduate
research assistants, maintaining database files, testing new
software, and ensuring database integrity. The Senior Research
Associate also participates in research projects as part of the NIS
Nonproliferation Project.

For the Research Associate position, good English and Russian
language skills, and a BA or equivalent experience are required.

An advanced degree and knowledge of international security or
nonproliferation issues are highly desirable. For the Senior
Research Associate position excellent English language skills, strong
Russian language skills, management skills, knowledge of
nonproliferation or international security issues, and an MA degree
or equivalent experience are required; knowledge of other languages
of the former Soviet Union and a Ph.D. are highly desirable.

Both positions are based in Monterey. Salary will be commensurate
with experience.
