On October 29, 1999, the Development Through Education Fund (DTEF)
arranged a solemn ceremony for awarding the winners of the city
competitions held in the framework of the implementation of the
rogram for support and development of innovations in education:
* a competition of the grants support,
* a competition of the pedagogic inventions, and
* a competition for the Tatischev Prize in the sphere of education in
1999.
The Chairman of the Board of the Development Through Education Fund,
Mr. Zhilkin, Mayor of Togliatt, handed the monetary premiums to eight
winners of the competition of the pedagogic inventions. They will
also receive the State Certificates for pedagogic inventions (thus
the authors' rights for the intellectual property will be protected).
Forty winners of the competition for the grants support will be
awarded with the grants to the total amount of USD 19,000.
Eighteen educators from Togliatti (including the co-authors) have
become the laureates of the Tatischev Prize.
The selected projects were designed for solution of the topical
problems encountered by modern education. These are as follows:
improvement of the quality of education, development of creative
abilities of the students, environmental education, civic education,
implementation of telecommunication technologies, etc.
Implementation of eight projects out of 56 will promote further the
development of democracy. For example, the purpose of the project "A
Citizen" (T. Dyakova is the author) is the preparation of the
students to participate more actively in public life, forming of
their mentality as of persons having stable civic position. There was
also an educational project entitled "Postcommunist Russia during
1991-1998" (P. Sharonov); an educational project on history (V.
Ovsyannikov) for students of high school, colleges, Liceums; and also
a project for a youth computer network, PioneerNet. The Russian/
American University for civic education (RAU CE) will continue its
work.
The Program "Decorative and Applied Arts As the Profile for the Work
Skills of Children, Having Deviations in Development" (T.
Ustyuzhaninova) will serve for socialization of children with
deviations; the Program for Pedagogic Support and Social Protection
of Illed Children (A. Balakina) will serve for socialization of the
disabled children, and the Program for teaching subjects of the
informatics block is designed for the children studing at home (E.
Vorona).
For background: The Program for Support and Development of Innovation
in the Sphere of Education is one of the main thrusts of the
Development Through Education Fund (DTEF). The first competitions of
the Program were held in 1996. This Program was recommended by the
Ministry of Education in the Russian Federation for spreading all
over Russia. Between 1996-1999, 1430 educators of Togliatti took part
in these competitions, and amongst them 637 people were winners,
including:
