Subject: Host families Needed
Project Harmony, a non-profit organization committed to increasing
understanding between Russia and The United States is looking for families
and schools throughout the US to host Russian high-school students in the
coming semester. There are 80 kids coming; they have been chosen from a
group of over 2500 applicants, based on their English ability, maturity,
outgoingness, leadership, academic achivement and special talents. The
students come from the areas of Siberia, Karelia and small cities and
towns in Western Russia.
The program is funded through The Freedom Support Act and the kids have
medical and dental insurance as well as a $650 stipend for the 5 months
that they are here, or about $30/week. They also recieve an orientation,
a mid-semester meeting and a few days in Washington and NY at the end of
the semester.
We are looking for any families who might be are interested in hosting.
Families can be single-parent, or have just little kids, or no kids, as
long as they are warm, caring people who are interested in getting to know
a student from Russia. We will arrange interviews for interested
families.
