Subject: Opportunity to Host a Teacher from the New Independent
ACTR/ACCELS and the United States Information Agency (USIA) are
pleased to announce a program to support civics education in the New
Independent States. U.S. secondary schools are invited to apply to host
English-speaking NIS teachers selected through a merit-based competition.
Participants will be qualified teachers of history or social studies and are
expected to teach up to three classes in the U.S. school during the
1996-97 academic year, in addition to developing a civics education
project to be implemented in their home school.
USIA funding provides NIS teachers with a stipend, which includes
housing allowance, all travel costs, and orientation programs. U.S.
institutions must provide a faculty advisor and an opportunity to participate
in a secondary school civics education program.
The application deadline for this program is December 15, 1995.
