Alcoholism Treatment Project in Ukraine
I'd like to introduce you to First Light Partners, and Oregon-based nonprofit
organization. After several years of privately funded development, we are
seeking the support of other interested individuals and organizations as we
work to bring modern training and treatment methods for alcoholism to the
health care professionals of Ukraine.
We have complete support and cooperation form both the Ministry of Health
and the Academy of Sciences. Complete training and treatment facilities
are being provided to us, as well as complete assistance in choosing the
best possible Ukrainina candidates to receive training.
First Light Partners believes deeply in the idea that this kind of help
should be temporary in its duration, but permanent in its effect. We are
dedicated to training over 120 health care professionals in proven
twelve-step facilitation therapy. Each of these men and women will
participate in a full-time six-month course of hands-on study. They in-turn
will use the manual-based training and treatment program to train thousands
of others -- tens of thousands will receive treatment. All aspects of our
work are accompanied by a well-designed research study. The approach is new
and fresh, the results permanent.
The project is designed to last three years. During Year #1, all material
for training and treatment will be translated and revised to be culturally
and socially applicable, and all US training volunteers and Ukrainian
training candidates will be selected. During Years 2&3, the training program
will be implemented and three six-month courses of study will be provided.
Between each training program, a one-month period will be used to revise both
the training and treatment models to better suit the needs of the people of
Ukraine.
