US-NIS Sister City Project Grants Available
The Eurasia Foundation, in an effort to support and strengthen
Sister City/State relationships in the NIS, has announced an open
grant competition for existing US/NIS Sister Cities/States in the
following areas:
* Small Business Development and Support
* Public Administration and Local Government
* Business, Economics and Public Administration Education
* Business/Management Training in the Media
Projects must fall under at least one of the following categories:
* Institution-building
* Training/Education
* Communications
The grant selection process is expected to be very competitive, so
projects which are modest in size, focused on a concrete goal, and
which demonstrate clear steps toward reaching that goal will have
a strong advantage.
The deadline for submitting proposals is July 7, 1995
CCSI (ccsi@u.washington.edu) will send, via e-mail, the complete
Grant Solicitation to anyone who requests it. The file includes a
description of the "Invitation for Proposals," application
procedure, decision making process, and brief profiles of similar
projects previously supported by the Eurasia Foundation. The file
is 23,000 bytes in size.
The file is also available on the Internet at URL:

Subject: Civics Education Exchange Program
Civics Education Exchange Program for NIS Teachers
The American Council of Teachers of Russian/American Council for
Collaboration in Education and Language Study and the United States
Information Agency are pleased to announce a program to support civics
education in the New Independent States. U.S. secondary schools are
invited to apply to host English-speaking NIS teachers selected through a
merit-based competition. Participants will be qualified teachers of history
or social studies and are expected to teach up to three classes in the
U.S. school, in addition to developing a civics education project to be
implemented in their home school. USIA funding provides NIS teachers
with a stipend, which includes a housing allowance, all travel costs, and
orientation programs. U.S. institutions must provide a faculty advisor and
an opportunity to participate in a secondary school civics education
program.
