         Foundation of Agrarian Development Research
      Disseminates agricultural development information

The Foundation of Agrarian Development Research, based in Moscow,
was founded in 1993 to make sustainable agricultural development
information accessible to people throughout Russia. It works to:

  * establish networks for information exchange between groups
      and individuals in Russia, and to link them with regional
      and global networks;

  * promote efficient and sustainable land-use systems in
      Russia;

  * implement environmental education.

In cooperation with Rodale Institute, FADR is establishing 4
information centers in Novosibirsk, Tver, Volgograd, and Orel. It
also has established an electronic news conference which is
accessible to anyone with e-mail.

CCSI will send, upon request, a more complete description of
FADR's work written by Alexander Makeev of FADR. (The file is

            IREX Internet Fellowships in the NIS

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) announces
possible professional fellowship opportunities to expand
computer network access among scholars and non-commercial civic
groups in sites across the NIS, and invites interested
candidates to send preliminary letters of interest and resumes.

IREX was established in 1968 to promote scholarly cooperation with
Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet region. IREX programs
deliver a broad range of services to scholars, professionals, and
policy-makers from the U.S. and an array of partner countries.

These would be year-long, full-time placements for American networking
specialists with strong regional backgrounds. Up to seven Fellowship sites
will be selected from cities throughout all the regions of the NIS.

The mission of the Internet Fellowships is to recruit and train local
networking trainers and to promote the sustainable use of computer networks
among academic and non-commercial organizations.

IREX is looking for candidates with:

  * Broad computer skills, including training experience and strong
     Internet background.

  * Professional-level Russian language ability. Knowledge of other
     languages of the NIS is helpful.

  * Some NIS living and/or working experience.

  * A high level of initiative and mature judgement. Proven
     managerial/organizational talent and ability to work with diverse
     communities.

Inquiries and letters of interest should be directed to
<interfel@info.irex.org>, or faxed to:
