The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC)
is an international foundation with its headquarters in Budapest.
The REC seeks to address the environmental challenges,
common to Central and Eastern Europe by promoting ecologically
sound development and increasing environmental awareness in the
Central and East European Countries. The REC focuses its efforts
specially on the development of a civil society in the environmental
field, primarily by supporting NGOs (non-governmental organisations).

Currently the REC got a mandate to prepare a feasibility study on creating
a REC like organisation for the countries for the former USSR.
Therefore the REC offers the following full time position, starting
March 1995 and finishing October 1995:

                       PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

The applicant should be able to work independently under the
supervision of a REC manager and to co-ordinate the preparation of
the feasibility study which will consist of a range of sub studies,
prepared in Russia, Ukraine and Moldova.

Activities include:
- to coordinate the preparation of the feasibility study
- to identify cooperation partners
- to negotiate contracts with coordination partners
- to supervise and monitor the preparation of sub studies
- to organise and conduct meetings of an advisory group
- to prepare the final project report, based on feasibility studies

For this position, the following qualifications are required:
- experience in project coordination and management
- understanding of the situation in countries of the former USSR
- basic knowledge of issues related to the environmental
 in Russia, Ukraine and Moldova
- experience in negotiating contracts, monitoring subcontracted projects
- ability to work together with official institutions and
non governmental organisations
- excellent oral and written English language and Russian language skills
- Ability to work independent and to tide deadlines
- Ability to travel within ex USSR countries

For the project period (March to October 1995), the
working place will at the Regional Environmental Center
in Budapest. Additionally to the salary the REC will reimburse
travel costs and contribute to living expenses of the applicant.
