There is currently no centralized and comprehensive database of AID grantees
accessible on-line. (Printed) information is often available from the NIS
technical assistance Coordinator's office at the State Department (202
647-2626). I'm not aware of a central clearinghouse at AID for printed
information. Specific officers at AID can be reached by e-mail with address
format (for example) <bclinton@usaid.gov>.

There also is no comprehensive database for projects of AID 'implementing
agencies'. For example, the Eurasia Foundation has funded 400 projects, ISAR
many more, World Learning many more, etc. Each organization needs to be
contacted separately.

I am not aware of any US Government effort at developing a comprehensive
database comprising all USG-funded grants. The European Community attempted
such a database two years ago which didn't prove useful (too hard to keep
current). The private foundations working in the NIS have also tried to develop
such a database without success to date.

AID does have a clearinghouse for printed documents. They can be reached at
Development Information Services Clearinghouse (DISC)
1500 Wislon Boulevard, Suite 1010
Arlington, VA 22209-2404
Tel 703/351-4006
Fax 703/351-4039

The clearinghouse provides copies of socuments (microfiche, blowback or
shelf copies). I have used this service after recieving and AID Abtstracts
on Central Asia Documentation and was pleased with the service.

Hope this is useful to someone.
