Dear Alex, In October 1993, I founded Friends of Buryat Religion and
Culture (FABRIC), in order to support the renaissance of indigenous
cultures in the Transbaikal Region - including Evenki and Buryat cultures.
Our latest projects have included helping Ivolginski Datsan, a Buddhist
monastary, start a library, and networking for Lotus, a dance group in
Ulan-Ude. We have raised money through concerts and mailings. We have
contacts with Buryatia via e-mail, and our contacts there keep us in touch
with other parts of the Baikal region.

I taught English at Ivolginski Datsan 1991-92, and my students were from
Tuva, Kalmykia, Ust-Ordinsky Oblast, Aginsky Oblast and other parts of
Siberia. Our future projects include helping to publish books by Native
authors of the Baikal Region, in their own languages, as well as English,
and possibly Russian. Over the long term, we would like to support small
independent collectives of artists. One discussion which is especially
heated among the supporters of FABRIC is tourism.

Good luck in compiling your list.

Bayartai,

G. "Dharm" Hall
