McClelland, Bruce A.

Summer Position: Internet Trainer; Electronic Publishing/Imaging Design/Implementation

Email: bam4c@darwin.clas.virginia.edu

I have thirteen years experience in the electronic information industry, and am now finishing the requirements for a Ph.D. in Slavic linguistics/Folklore at University of Virginia. I am seeking a summer position in which I could trade the benefit of my technical and editorial expertise--especially my familiarity with the Internet or with the design and building of text databases, electronic imaging and OCR and related areas--for an opportunity to live in a Russian-speaking community for the summer. I am a published translator of Russian, and also know Bulgarian and Serbo-Croatian. Salary requirements: round-trip airfare from East Coast US; modest living and food stipend or provision.

management software. Performed all systems analysis and
integration, cost justification, and technology transfer tasks
related to document conversion. Reduced hard-copy to full-text
converstion costs to under $0.40/Kchar. Consulted with
programming staff regarding enhancements to information
retrieval software. Wrote white paper discussing design,
impact, and costs and benefits of conversion to ''paperless''
production system. Member of strategic planning team.
