HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The university was originally founded on April 17, 1930 on the basis of the Faculty of Oil of the Moscow Mining Academy, the institution began with 1135 students and consisted of four faculties - Geology and Oil Prospecting, Mining Engineering, Oil Processing and Economics. In 1966, the university began the task of fulfilling the function of a basic higher educational institution. In 1987, it established the Teaching Methods Research Association in oil and gas specialities. It has since become a research center of oil and gas higher education of the Russian Federation with nine faculties.

SCIENTIFIC OR EDUCATIONAL MISSION

The university is comprised of nine faculties with specialties in the following areas:

  • applied mathematics
  • law
  • economics and management in branches of fuel and power complex
  • geophysical methods of search and prospecting
  • oil and gas geology
  • physical processes of mining and oil production
  • working and exploitation of gas and oil deposits
  • design, building and exploitation of gas and oil pipe lines and tanks
  • sinking of oil and gas wells
  • sea oil and gas constructions
  • machine-building technology
  • welding production equipment and technology
  • equipment and technology of wear resistance raising and restoration of machine parts and apparatus
  • machines and equipment of oil and gas fields
  • chemical productions, machines and technology
  • information and measuring engineering
  • technological processes and productions' automation
  • electric drive and automation of industrial installments and technological complexes
  • automated systems of information processing and management
  • organic compounds chemical technology
  • chemical technology of fuel and carbon materials
  • environmental protection and natural resources rational use

Gubkin's research program aligns itself to their specialists' training orientation and maintains a branch research laboratory. It also has international connections with partners in the USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, China and others.
