Below are various resources for tools used to measure and monitor network traffic.

Measurement Tools

  • Bandwidth pING *

Bing is a point-to-point bandwidth measurement tool, based on ping. It is written by Pierre Beyssac . Bing determines the real (raw, as opposed to available or average) throughput on a link by measuring ICMP echo requests roundtrip times for different packet sizes for each end of the link. It's a free software

  • Monitoring Tools

  • CellBlaster - ATM Network Analyser *

CellBlaster provides important benefits which address the issues facing the implementers of ATM networks.

    • Full bandwidth generation, filter and capture at up to 155 Mbps ensures complete data visibility
    • Real-time capture and filter engine allows for full rate capturing of cells
    • Powerful software architecture provides real-time protocol data unit (PDU) analysis
Web-based Demo is available on this site

  • Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) *

The Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) is a tool to monitor the traffic load on network-links. MRTG generates HTML pages containing GIF images which provide a LIVE visual representation of this traffic. MRTG is based on Perl and C and works under UNIX and Windows NT.
