Predpolagaetsya, chto AADS budet obespechivat' transatlanticheskij telekommunikatsionnyj kanal.

TSeli i zadachi

Mirnet simvoliziruet vazhnyj shag v razvitii telekommunikatsionnoj infrastruktury, ob'edinyayuschej rossijskoe i amerikanskoe nauchnye soobschestva. On budet sposobstvovat' ustanovleniyu bolee tesnyh kontaktov mezhdu nauchnymi i obrazovatel'nymi organizatsiami nashih stran, provedeniyu sovmestnyh issledovanij prakticheski vo vseh oblastyah nauchnoj deyatel'nosti ot yadernoj fiziki do geologii zemnoj poverhnosti. Soglasie Ministerstva nauki i tehnologij RF ezhegodno vydelyat' 500 000 dol. SSHA dlya realizatsii etogo 5-letnego proekta (vsego 2,5 mil. dol SSHA) svidetel'stvuet ob ogromnoj zainteresovannosti Rossii v ego osuschestvlenii. Finansirovanie amerikanskoj storony sostavlyaet 4 mln. dol., kotorye budut v osnovnom izrashodovany na obespechenie transatlanticheskogo telekommunikatsionnogo kanala i t.p.

Osnovnym napravleniem deyatel'nosti Mirnet budet obespechenie telekommunikatsionnyh uslug setej novogo pokoleniya i organizatsiya dostupa k etim setyam amerikanskih i rossijskih issledovatelej posrestvom podklyucheniya rossijskih ATM setej Moskovskogo i Sankt-Petergurgskogo regionov k amerikanskoj vBNS cherez STAR TAP v CHikago. Osnovnymi zadachami proekta yavlyayutsya:

  • Organizatsiya sverhskorostnogo telekommunikatsionnogo kanala (high performance network services) mezhdu uchastnikami proekta v Rossii i ih partnerami v SSHA.
  • Podderzhka novyh i innovatsionnyh rossijsko-amerikanskih programm, osuschestvlenie kotoryh vozmozhno tol'ko s pomosch'yu tehnologij Internet sleduyuschego pokoleniya.
  • Razvitie novyh telekommunikatsionnyh tehnologij i izuchenie vozmozhnostej ih primeneniya v razlichnyh sferah nauchnoj i obrazovatel'noj deyatel'nosti.

Tehnologiheskaya harakteristika

Sut' proekta Mirnet - eto sozdanie sverhskorostnogo, obladayuschego vysokoj propusknoj sposobnost'yu telekommunikatsionnogo kanala mezhdu Sverhproizvoditel'noj magistral'noj setevoj sluzhboj SSHA (vBNS) i vysokoskorostnoj set'yu (high performance network), bystro razvivayuschejsya v Moskve i Sankt-Peterburge cherez STAR TAP (Science, Technology, and Research Transit Access Point) v CHikago. Kanal, kotoryj budet obespechivat'sya Teleglobe (SSHA) i rossijskim provajderom Roskom, yavlyaetsya nazemnym ATM kanalom s propusknoj sposobnost'yu 6 Mb/s mezhdu STAR TAP (Ameritech NAP) i mezhdunarodnoj telefonnoj stantsiej M-9 v Moskve.

Za funktsionirovanie kanala budet otvechat' TSentr Mirnet v Universitete shtata Tennessi i RosNIIROS/MGU pri podderzhke STAR TAP (AADS) i Teleglobe. Universitet shtata Tennessi i RosNIIROS/MGU budut sluzhit' tochkami podklyucheniya konechnyh pol'zovatelej sootvetsvenno v SSHA i Rossii. Universitet budet takzhe sluzhit' tochkoj podklyucheniya dlya uchastnikov programmy za predelami SSHA (krome Rossii). Informatsiya o tekuschem sostoyanii proekta budet regulyarno publikovat'sya na WWW, a takzhe v spetsial'no sozdannom spiske rassylki. Universitet nadeetsya byt' aktivnym uchastnikom vseh initsiativ, svyaschannyh s programmoj HPIIS, v chastnosti - TransPAC v Universitete shtata Indiana.

Realizatsiya proekta

Pervonachal'noj zadachej proekta yavlyaetsya organizatsiya i testirovanie stabil'nosti kanala propusknoj sposobnost'yu 6 Mb/c mezhdu STAR TAP v CHikago i mezhdunarodnym telefonnym uzlom M9 v Moskve, odnako, v dal'nejshem predpolagaetsya naraschivanie moschnosti etogo kanala v desyatki raz s tsel'yu rasshireniya vozmozhnostej primeneniya telekommunikatsionnyh tehnologij novogo pokoleniya vsemi uchastnikami rastuschego rossijsko-amerikanskogo nauchnogo soobschestva. Kriteriyami uspeha budut bystroe naraschivanie moschnosti, stabil'nost' kanala, udovletvorennost' pol'zovatelej, chislo issledovatel'skih i obrazovatel'nyh organizatsij, vovlechennyh v proekt v tom chisle i za predelami Sankt-Peterburga i Moskvy, kachestvo issledovatel'skih programm.

Dlya dostizheniya postavlennoj tseli komanda Mirnet obespechit neobhodimuyu issledovatel'skuyu, tehnicheskuyu i kadrovuyu podderzhku; budet sposobstvovat' razrabotke strategii razvitiya, poisku zainteresovannyh investorov, prinyatiyu upravlencheskih reshenij. razrabotaet mehanizm vovlecheniya v proekt novyh uchastnikov.

Razvitie sverhskorostnyh telekommunikatsionnyh setej v Rossii - zadacha novaya i unikal'naya. Uspeshnaya realizatsiya proekta Mirnet nevozmozhna bez ogromnyh personal'nyh i organizatsionnyh usilij vseh ego uchastnikov. Odnako postavlennaya zadacha stoit zatrachivaemyh usilij.

    NCSA AND KURCHATOV INSTITUTE SELECT TELEGLOBE TO PROVIDE FASTNET HIGH PERFORMANCE NETWORK LINKING U.S. AND RUSSIA

    National Science Foundation and Russian Ministry of Industry, Science and Technology Fund New High Speed Network For Scientific Collaboration

    RESTON, Va. and MOSCOW, Russia, December 14, 2001 – NCSA and the Kurchatov Institute, top research institutions in the U.S. and Russia respectively, today announced they have selected Teleglobe (NYSE, TSE: BCE), the e-World Communications Company, to develop a 155 megabit per second (Mbps) secure data connection that will give the two countries’ scientific communities unprecedented access to each other and facilitate joint scientific and educational projects.

    The link, called NaukaNet (For Advanced Science and Technology Network), is funded in part by a $2 million grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Russian support for the link is from the Russian Ministry of Industry, Science and Technology. NaukaNet supports a strong alliance between NCSA, the Russian Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” in Moscow, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Moscow-based Joint Supercomputer Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Teleglobe.

    The new NaukaNet network will increase the bandwidth between the U.S. and Russia by orders of magnitude. NaukaNet will facilitate communications through high quality video-conferencing that has never been possible on such a wide basis between the U.S. and Russian scientific communities. The network’s capabilities will be put to use during the U.S.-Russian Science and Technology Dialog -- a series of science and technology working groups in nine different scientific disciplines, scheduled to begin next month. Following these dialogs, the discussions will expand to a broader range of topics and disciplines.
