Stavropol and Stavropol Region

The following is a list of sites describing Stavropol in the North Caucasus Region of southern Russia. The city of Stavropol, founded in 1777, is the administrative center of the region and the hometown of Mikhail Gorbachev. We have also compiled resources on other cities of this region including the Nevinnomyssk and the Caucaucus Mineralnye Vody region (Pyatigorsk, Mineralnye Vody, Georgievsk, Essentuki, Kislovodsk , and others). Prior to 1924, this region was also known by the names of Southeastern Oblast, North Caucasian Kray, and Ordzhonikidze Kray. The village of Privolnoie in the Krasnogvardeisky district of this region was the birthplace of Mikhail Gorbachev.
