Republic of Karelia
The Republic of Karelia is located in the northwestern part of Russian
Federation, taking intervening position between the basins of the Barents and
Baltic seas. The total territory of Karelia is 172,400 square kilometers
(68,960 square miles) with a population of 800 000 people. The capital of
the Republic is the city of Petrozavodsk
situated on the shore of Onego lake. Karelia is a very popular tourist
region with Kizhi
Island in Lake Onego among the most famous of places.
