Welcome to CivilSoc

Civil Society News and Resources for the NIS

Please keep this message: it contains information on how you can take yourself off this list at any time.

CivilSoc is an electronic mailing list of news and resources, electronic and print, of interest to individuals and organizations engaged in civil society institution-building projects in the NIS (former USSR). The list is managed by Center for Civil Society International in Seattle, Washington.

We hope that CivilSoc will grow over time and reflect the interests of many subscribers. Initially it will consist of announcements about projects and resources, print and electronic, that CCSI posts. But we encourage all participants, especially those in the NIS, to submit their own material for posting.

Because some subscribers based in the NIS must pay for all incoming mail, we intend to keep postings concise: an average of 1-3 kilobytes, with a monthly volume of around 50-70 kilobytes. If you have longer messages to submit to the list, please do so, but we may edit them for length.

To send a message for everyone on the list, e-mail it to:

To take yourself off the list, send a message to listproc@solar.ncsa.uiuc.edu with the message:

Project Harmony

Make sure to visit the Project Harmony web site. This is one of the best organizations involved in US, Russian exchange - and they've been at it for a long time (since the days when US and Russian exchange was limited mainly to music and performing arts). Colleen Halley does a super job with their site (and with the Internet School Linkages Program).
