Development of Obninsk Civic Network
  1. Achievements during the reported period:
a) useful meetings and contacts:
  1. In the June SPAN Newsletter (IREX?USAID) the Obninsk Civic Network mentioned as a resource of the SPAN’s partners
  2. The same Newsletter (see above) describes visit of our partners from Oak Ridge who are the OCN partners to Obninsk.
  3. The OCN and OK_Club leaders met with new Vice-Mayor of Social Matters – Alexander Sychev - and informed him about their activity. Mutual understanding was achieved during the meeting and Alexander promised the he’ll support the OCN project and will provide the City participation in it.
  4. On May 15 the City Parents Committee was established in Obninsk under the support from the City Educational Office. There is an agreement about cooperation with the Parents Committee in the framework of the civic movement “Computer – to School” initiated by the OCN.
b) outcomes of activities performed in Obninsk or other places:
  1. During the reported period the OCN site got 15 new pages and sites developed by the OCN volunteers.
  2. The OK_Club held the second stage of the “Computer-01” competition for youth under 25. The results of the competition can be found at - http://civnet.okclub.org/result2001.htm.
  3. The OCN volunteers provide training for disabled children from the “Trust” Center. The students learn fundamentals of computers and development of Web sites.
  4. A new consortium “Network of Active Organizations” that includes now 8 organizations is established to help in solving community problems. The NAO works in close cooperation with the OCN.
  1. Brief description of activity proposed for implementation for the next reported period

  2. The OCN activity during the summer period will be mainly focused on the creation of new information resources. In September we will continue training process for NGO’s staff and members. This training will also include school teachers. During the same period the OCN news system will be tested..
