5. Purpose and objectives of proposal
Launching and development of Obninsk Civic Network

6. Accomplishments during report period :
a. meetings and communications pertaining to output (with full address):

  • 1. In January Y. Koftan visited OakRidge as a member of Obninsk team. OakRidge is a sister city of Obninsk, it is located in Tennessee, USA (details are given in a business trip report).


b. activities in Obninsk or other locations pertaining to output (description, diagrams for technical issues) :

  • "Friend and Partners" Fund supplied us with the following equipment: HP server, two working stations HP Vectra, scaner, 3COM Total Control to get an access to Obninsk Civic Network. The equipment has been installed to develop OCN technical base.A complete set of software is developed and configured on Web server and Dial-up server. These servers are included in a local network of Intranet-Internet center in OK Club.
  • Cross - connections and attachment of phone-number with 8 channels is being made at IPPE Telephone Station ( phone 9-44-09 ) to provide remote access to OCN Web server ( expected time for work completion - the end of April).
  • Designers of MAXNET SYTEM Ltd. have started the development of OCN Web site (the first version will appear in May 2000).
  • Public access point has been opened in OK Club.


c. progress towards achieving purpose and objectives :

  • OCN Information and Methodic Center has been set up in OK Club.
  • Public access point has been opened in OK Club.
  • Training centers in OCIC (Obninsk City Information Center ) for municipal employees and in OK Club have been equipped with all necessary stuff and ready to start..
  • Inventory of existing and developing City Internet resources has been completed with the purpose of consolidation them in the framework of OCN project.
d. issues and problems :
  • There are no problems but there are some issues that will be solved in a process of work.


e. training activities and number of individuals trained:

  • Training seminars for municipal and non-commercial employees will be held in the middle of April.


7. Activities to be conducted during the next quarterly report period (summary only).

  • OCN board of directors and different committees should be formed (April).
  • To complete the development of the first version of OCN resources and provide the access to them (May).
  • Training for OCN users. (municipal employees and non-commercial organizations - in April, pupils - in July).
  • Information exchange and interaction with other Civic Network - April- May.
