The Tashkent Center for Women Leaders defines its mission as "the improvement of women's legal and socio-economic status in Uzbekistan." Since its founding in 1996, the Center has held workshops on improve women's knowledge of their legal rights, produced radio programs on rights issues for women and children, published a quarterly newsletter. In August 1997, the Center held a seminar (together with the Uzbek National Center for Human Rights and the Tashkent Women's Committee) entitled "Women's Rights Are Human Rights." The goal of the seminar was to educate participants on national and international laws regarding women's rights.
