Footnote #3, "Friday prayers":
Muslims are required to pray five times each day, but this can be done at home or at work or at one's local mosque. The main mosque(s) of a city are preferred for Friday afternoon prayers, when a sermon is given. These mosques are often referred to as Friday Mosques or Congregational Mosques (Dzamija or Jami) to distinguish them from the neighborhood mesdzid, the word from which our word "mosque" ultimately refers.
