An Entrance to Avondale
Location: Intersection at the corner of Crestwood Boulevard and 5th Avenue South
Goals & Objectives:
The primary importance of this site is to welcome people into the neighborhood of Avondale. The site is the primary entrance to the neighborhood. It should represent the neighborhood as a whole, a conglomerate landscape. The warmth this site brings to people entering Avondale sets the tone, rhythm and mood for the functions and activities within the area. Since this site is a commuter and traffic area it should mildly please the eye and relax the visitor into a new home.
Suggestions:
- Open the space of the yard to create an inwardness to the site.
- The feeling of home can be brought by making the site a yardscape to the existing house.
- Bring the publics interest in by making the site serve as a streetscape for drivers and pedestrians.
- Limit number of plantings to open the site up to the street and to make house prominent.
- Plants should be colorful for scenic aesthetics and fragrant for pedestrian allure to the site.
- Insert a small retaining wall to create site boundaries, enhance curve in road for visual safety and to preserve integrity of hill from erosion.
