Yes, IndiaÕs carbon dioxide emission would increase considerably in the years to come (after following ChinaÕs case), -- especially with the popularity of inexpensive TATA automobile, which may contribute to the increase of the automobiles around the world to 2.5 times of the current numbers by 2030.

Dear Dr. Raman:

(9) Pls work with Dr. Ramkumar and Dennis on your letter of intent which is to be submitted to the IDRC of Canada (Reference (c) of the Reference (a) above), and send me your first draft ASAP.

BTW, pls follow our requirement mentioned in the Item (3) above.

Keep in touch.

Best, Tak

Dear Mr. Prof. Lutfor Rahman,

Greetings from Bangladesh Disaster Preparedness Centre (BDPC)!

As discussed with Md. Saidur Rahman, Director of BDPC, I am writing you in reference to the e-mail of Tak Utsumi of GLOSAS/USA regarding applying for the IDRC fund by Nigerian, Bangladeshi and Indian Colleagues for research project on adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Bangladesh.

You would appreciate to know that BDPC is a organization of professionals in the field of Disaster risk management and Climate Change Adaptation. Going through the Request for application by "IRIACC" and it's research program domain we are very much interested to participate with your research project from Bangladesh as focus or activities of BDPC and it's NC4 network (National Coordination Council for Climate Change) best matches or compliance with the IRIACC's research/project focus (Anticipated results) i.e

- Advancing Knowledge,
- Shaping policy and informing practice and
- Training and Networking

We have conducted research and studies in the coastal areas on climate change impact and community perception and organized workshop/Seminar on the CC issues. Currently, We are implementing a research project "Adaptation to the Impact of Climate Change through Community based Flood Warning System" in two upazilas of Sirajganj district with the assistance of ActionAid Bangladesh.

Additionally, as an IT professional and disaster practitioner I am interested to be a part of this research initiative focusing climate change adaptation.

Please visit <http://www.bdpc.org.bd>  for BDPC profile and activities.

It would be appreciated if you include me in your mailing list and notify this e-mail.

Fw: Copenhaggen and India: Climate Issues

Dr. Hans/Dr. Tak,

Hope you are doing well. Please find attached very interesting story on Copenhaggen. Mention within is India and its carbon ranking. http://in.news.yahoo.com/48/20091206/804/tnl-the-copenhagen-guide.html. I didnt realize India was the fifth largest emitter of greenhouse gases.

Now, what is really highlighted is the blanket statement of Indian National issue of poverty and development. From the Bihar Project and the IGEWS proposal, this raises my interest to better understand how poverty and development relates to affecting climate change (other than the proneness to deforestation, irresponsible resource exploitation, and the cummulative energy consumption driven by overpopulation). I thought it the other way around, climate change will affect poverty and development. It is my obseravtion from the field that poverty striken rural sector has a very low energy intensity, and, that great opporutunity exist for complementing carbon reduction: carbon sequestration in soil, biogas generation, renewable energy, etc.

Dennis Ramdahin
