Dear Njideka:
(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I). Glad to hear from you again after almost 5
years absence.
I read your msg and web site with great interest. My wholehearted
congratulations to your substantial progress since then.
Pls convey my best personal regards to Chinyere whom I met at the ÒDigital
Bridge AfricaÓ conference which was held on 6/23 to 26/04 in Abuja, Nigeria by
Charles Eke.
(2) I would strongly suggest that you contact Peter Jack at your earliest
convenience.
He is now organizing a workshop — probably on next January 14th or so
— in Nigeria, and I hope I would be invited to attend it.
You may describe your project at this workshop if PeterÕs project team can
include it.
I may be able to meet you at this occasion, too.
Wishing you a very good luck to your excellent endeavor.
Best, Tak

Subject: Please Help Us Reach This Goal - The "New Owerri Digital
Village"
Dear Tak:
On behalf of Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF), I am writing to request
your support as we embark on a new journey – to design and construct the
very first sustainable community center in West Africa, the ÒNew Owerri Digital
VillageÓ (NODV).
Please take a moment to learn more about the NODV here:
http://wwww.givingglobal.org/projects/sustainable-building-for-owerri-digital-village/
One may ask Òhow does YTF justify building a state-of-the art sustainable
community center in a socially disadvantaged community where people are hungry,
unemployed and under-educatedÓ? The answer is simple; the New Owerri
Digital Village goes beyond architectural utility. The project is a new
paradigm of thinking - one of creating a self-sustaining and an environmentally
healthy community. A community that understands and benefits from the synergy
between environmental sustainability and social equity.
Sustainable construction implies a strong commitment to local culture, skills
and materials while meeting the needs and resources of disadvantaged people in
rural communities, most of whom are youth and women.
Locals will be trained daily as part of the construction project and unskilled
workers will learn marketable skills from tradesmen, creating an opportunity
for rural dwellers to escape poverty. By using local people and local
materials, YTF will help to keep as much money in the community as possible,
giving young people a reason to stay and develop their surroundings instead of
migrating to the urban communities already ridden with crime, unemployment and
congestion.
Technology courses, career development training, life-skills workshops and
environmental education workshops are a few programs that will be developed and
implemented at the NODV. The center will also provide a meeting ÒhubÓ for
at least 50,000 people in the first two years, with a systemic impact on at
least 400,000 people.
YTF is looking to raise $300,000 for the New Owerri Digital Village and no
amount is too small to help us towards this cause. I am personally asking
that you consider making a financial contribution to YTFÕs project on Global
Giving at:
http://wwww.givingglobal.org/projects/sustainable-building-for-owerri-digital-village/
The NODV represents not just a building but a hope for the future. Thank
you for your trust in us and for your support of the important work that YTF
does.
Sincerely,
Njideka U. Harry
