Dear Amit, Andrea, Harold and Carl:

(1) Many thanks for your time to come to the first planning workshop of our GCEPG/GSEEED project at the Polytechnic Institute of NYU in Brooklyn on 6/18th — Andrea through Skype videoconferencing.

It was very interesting and productive mtg with intensive discussions.

Dear Amit:

(2) Many, many thanks for your very comprehensive minutes of this mtg (Reference (a) above).

Dear E-Colleagues:

I strongly suggest that you read AmitÕs mtg minutes.

(3) I am very delighted to read your minutes as proposing the use of the Input-Output (I-O) methodology for our project.

Methodologies of Socio-Economic Simulation-a copy.pdf
<

I agree with your following statement;

ÒOf the general interdependence approaches which have been investigated, the interregional input-out approach pioneered by Wassily W. Leontief is most prominent, both in terms of accomplishment and recognition. Takeshi, Andrea, and Amit agreed that it represents a fruitful approach for depicting and investigating the underlying processes which bind together the regions of a system and all the separate facets of their economies. Its strength lies in its detailed quantitative presentation of an inter-industry system as it exists not only within each region but also among regions.Ó

BTW, as mentioned to you during our mtg, we had a ÒGlobal Lecture Hall (GLH)Ó videoconferencing at the World Future Studies Federation in Nagoya, Japan in November 1989, with Wassily Leontief (a Nobel Laureate in economics for his invention of the I-O technique) at New York University to discuss the relationships between "Environment and Development" with Colorado Video's slow-scan TV units via POTS line. The real-time chatting feature of Electronic Information Exchange System (EIES) of New Jersey Institute of Technology was also used for back-stage coordination.  In a sense, we used them with Òpoor-manÕs approachÓ very inexpensively.

(4) Many thanks also for your draft comment (Reference (b) above), which is to be submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in response to my suggestion in the following list distribution;

(04/22/09) Possible comments to be submitted to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

However, as we agreed during our phone conversation a few days ago, letÕs forget about the EPA issue, and concentrate on the two page summary of our projects, which Josie wants to have for her coordination of her colleagues at the CICR of Columbia University to have a joint conference/workshop in this coming fall.  I would appreciate it if you can make it up — probably as elaborating the last two paras of your draft comments — or you may refine my following summary (which pdf file I sent to you a few days ago);

"Synopsis of GLOSAS/USA Projects"

Dear Josie:

(5) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I), indicating your interest in our projects.

During our mtg with you on 6/16th, you mentioned your conference in the coming fall, and I proposed to make it a joint one with our projects. Everyone of our colleagues at our mtg at the Polytechnic on 6/18th were excited with this possibility, and said that they would be more than willing to work on this event.

(6) Pls let me know three alternative dates for our visit to discuss the outline of our joint conference/workshop event, since time is getting very short — I think that a half day session in the afternoon would be sufficient, since Andrea and Amit have to come up from Washington, DC, if they would join.

Dear Andrea, Amit, Harold and Carl:
I will let you know those alternative dates so that we can visit Josie.

(7) BTW, at that time, you also asked me about our following book;

Global Peace Through The Global University System
Tapio Varis - Takeshi Utsumi - William Klemm (Eds.)
University of Tampere, Finland 2003
ISBN 951-44-5695-5

Dear Harold:

(8) Pls let me know about your approach to the NYU people in Manhattan if they might be interested in participating in our GCEPG/GSEEED projects.

Dear Amit:

(9) Many thanks for your very interesting book ÒInternet Solutions for Project Managers,Ó John Wiley & Sons, ISBN 0-471-33027-2, 2000.

This is an excellent book — covering many fields and items succinctly — though, I think that satellite is now getting out of date as mentioned to you before, compared with ultra broadband Internet with optical fiber — thanks to the fast extrusion (50 meters per second) technique invented by Tom Mensah from Ghana, one of our e-colleagues.

You said in its Preface ÒThe Internet provides a backbone for team-oriented business structures.Ó  Yes, the next phase of the Internet development is to utilize it for the ÒCollaborationÓ of brains — particularly from various developing countries, which will subsequently attain the global peace with the effective use of broadband Internet, which is the mission of our GCEPG/GSEEED and GUS projects.

I really hope that, as you said in the minutes, ÒIf we succeed in partnering with the Columbia UniversityÕs CICR Fall Õ09 Workshop, we will be able to probe the regional and interregional structure and function at its core, uncovering and emphasizing basic interactions of political, social, technological, and economic forces that are often not clearly articulated or understood.Ó  Yes, this is a daunting vision, but we must challenge!!

I shall wait for the draft of your two page summary to be submitted to Josie.

(10) Since you are near to AndreaÕs office, pls get together sometime and discuss more of the approaches of our projects.

BTW, pls send me a copy of your paper ÒFacilitating Adjustment to Change in Fossil Fuel Suppliers: Some Available Possibilities [1977].Ó

Lastly, pls send me the copy of the National Geographic magazine I lent to you.

Keep in touch.

Best, Tak

Dear Takeshi,

It was indeed a pleasure to meet you last week. The projects you outlined sounded fascinating, and I am looking forward to reading the materials you left me in more depth this weekend.

Thank you for passing on the information about the Call for Proposals to some of your colleagues and students. We do hope to receive applications from them, and we are grateful for your encouragement.

I look forward to working with you in the future,

Warm wishes,

Josie
