As mentioned in it, I am very happy you would make GCEPG/GSEEED projects as
your first priority on the creation of the Center for Conflict Prevention,
Management and Resolution on Environmental Issues in Niger Delta Region of
Nigeria, which would then lead to the creation of GUS/Nigeria. I am sure that
the governors of states in the region would appreciate your economic, energy
and environment policy analysis and assessment.
Pls feel free to utilize any part of my paper mentioned above for your
constructing a concept paper of fund raising to create GUS/Nigeria with Peter.

above — BTW, you would find my reminiscences on the joint game with Prof.
Bob Noel (your professor at the University of California in Santa Barbara)

anniversary issue of S&G. It would be marvelous if you could do an
article on your achievements over the last 40 or so years, especially peace
gaming.
Please see more ideas about an S&G article below.
If you were not able to do this, I wonder if you might be able to recommend
someone.
The dates given below are more flexible than they appear.

Invitation
to write an article
for the 40th
anniversary of S&G
In less than a year, in 2009,
S&G starts volume 40. Most of the 2009 issues will be devoted a 40th
anniversary celebration symposium (special issue).
I would like to invite you to do a top flight, high quality article in your
area of expertise in simulation/gaming. What I have in mind is one of, or
indeed a combination of, the following:
- Review article: A critical review of
the major publications in the area, going back over the years (even 40 or 50
perhaps), with recommendations for the next decade.
- Recent developments: Similar to review,
but going back only a few years, and focusing perhaps more on the pragmatic and
on grass roots, with recommendations for the next decade.
- State of the art article: Similar to
review, but more a conceptual analysis and overview of things as they are now,
with recommendations for the next decade.
- Other: As you see fit.
Search & free access. You will
be pleased to know that almost the entire collection of S&G has now been digitized, enabling you to search on
all back issues for nearly 40 years, starting with Vol 1 No 1. You should
find a search link at the web site below. I have managed to
negotiate free access to S&G articles for 40th authors for a 6-month period
to help them write their articles. Once you are 'on board' I'll send
details.
Topics can be methodology
centered, such as debriefing, design, computers. They can be content focused, such as business, international
relations, cross-cultural communication, natural resources, medical, crisis
management, policy, urban planning, language acquisition, sociology, behaviour,
learning, etc. The topic should be fairly broad.
Deadline. The articles will be
published throughout 2009. I would like some articles ready for
publishing by the end of Oct 2008, but later dates until mid 2009 are also
possible.
Quality. This is an invitation, so
I will not have the article put through the normal blind review. However, what
I would appreciate is you setting up a simple personal review process. In
practice, this means having two reviewers of your own (critical colleagues) to
provide honest and written feedback on each version of your article. When
you send in your final version, it would be useful for me to have a copy of
those reviews.
I will be blunt; this is not a 'blind' invitation; I will retain the
prerogative of rejecting an article if it is not (or cannot be brought) up to
scratch. As you know, S&G aims to publish high quality work.
This is even more important in a symposium such as this, and in a field
like simulation/gaming, which struggles more than many to maintain legitimacy.
Co-authoring. Co-authoring usually
produces better articles (1+1=3). I would therefore strongly urge you to
find one or two co-authors. With co-authoring, you may find that
reviewing (above) can be lighter.
Work. I would like to emphasize
that an article of this nature may require some considerable time on your part,
possibly more than a more focused research piece. However, the reward is
that this sort of article always ranks much higher in citations - you get
quoted much more.
Length. I would guess that anything
between 6k and 9k words would be appropriate. Please keep your writing
tight and the length to the minimum necessary.
Impact. I see your article as having a
major impact on the field for simulation/gaming, and helping to set the scene
and direction for the next 10 years. As I said, in most academic
journals, this sort of article later gets the greatest number of citations in
other works.
This would be particularly fitting as S&G might be accepted in the next application round
for inclusion in Journal Citation Reports (JCR), formerly ISI, which includes
only the 'top' 12% of journals. We only just missed it last time. Your paper
and JCR would be mutually beneficial.
Other
authors. If you know of
other authors (in fields other than yours) who would be able to write a high
quality article, please send me their contact details.
