Dear Simone:
(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I).
I greatly appreciate to have valuable information you sent to me, about the
closing digital divide movement — particularly in Africa. I browsed
them, but will look into them more in details from time to time from now on.
I am taking the liberty of distributing your msg to our list so that our list
members would also benefit from the valuable info.
(2) Hope your work at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome is
going smoothly — especially for the purpose of your acquiring a doctoral
degree later somewhere.
Thanks again for your info.
Hello to you from Hisae.
Best, Tak

Dear Takeshi,
sorry for my delay in answering: it was due to the fact that I didn't want to
send you 2 differents e-mail, one about African Digital Divide and the other
about the contact with the African Union. Unluckily, my friend Paul is not in
Italy, and the waiting was becoming too long. However, as I'll know something
I'll immediately tell you.
By the way, here is some good resource about Digital Divide in Africa.
FAO made some interesting work on the topic. Particularly, you could explore
the "Bridging the Rural Digital Divide" website, which is here:
http://www.fao.org/rdd/index_en.asp.
Moreover, you could look at these publications containing case studies and
suggestions for application of ICTs at rural level:
(a)
Revisiting the magic box
http://www.fao.org/docrep/006/y5106e/y5106e00.htm.
(b) The first mile of connectivity: advancing telecommunications for rural
development through participatory communication
http://www.fao.org/sd/CDdirect/CDre0025.htm
I know very well one of the authors (Clare O'Farrell), and
if you want to get in touch with her I can arrange it with no problem at all.
Other interesting institutional papers are:
(c)
Options for terrestrial connectivity in Sub-Saharan Africa
http://www.eldis.org/go/display&id=31850&type=Document
(d) Spanning the digital divide: understanding and tackling the issues
http://www.eldis.org/go/display&id=11142&type=Document
(e) The halfway proposition: background paper on reverse subsidy of G8
countries by African ISPs
http://www.eldis.org/go/display&id=11610&type=Document
(f) Global Information Society 2007. The digital divide: a review of ICTs in
Africa, Asia and Latin America

(g) Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation's strategic orientation in
ICT4D
