At that time, I was lucky to have had an opportunity to meet with Roy Schwarz.
He received an honorary degree from Montana State University (MSU) in
Bozeman, Montana, which is my alma mater. He has then been listed as a
distinguished alumni. This was thanks to his creation of WWAMI, which is
an enduring partnership between the University of Washington School of Medicine
(*) and the states of Wyoming, Alaska, Montana (including MSU), and Idaho
<http://www.uwmedicine.org/Education/WWAMI/>.
(*) Linda is now

How is your paper publishing project, which you mentioned last fall? If
published, pls end me its copy for my file. Thanks in advance.

Dear Dr. Utsumi,
Thank you for keeping
us informed with what is going on around us in the world. I feel that
your work will lead to the creation of a new technological world that makes all
universities and other institutions live in one technological campus. I
appreciate your good work and would like to ask if there is any possibility to
look through your distinguished program GUS for donors to sponsor our
USAID-funded project "Mother Child Health & Nutrition" that is
phasing out in two months. We will continue this project through the
Palestinian center for Human Resource Development and Gaza Women University.
The proposal is ready
and we hope it will continue to serve the Palestinian impoverished women and
children living in Gaza Strip.
Best regards.

Subject: GUS, WWAMI, IIME: frameworks for Africa med. ed?
Dear Dr. Roy Schwartz and Dr. Takeshi Utsumi,
I was so pleased to connect with Dr. Schwartz this morning. I have attached
reference materials and will send on a later summary of last meeting at the UW
in office of Dr. David Eschenbach, Chair OBGYN.
It is with great anticipation that I write to you both, and with hope that we
can bring together each of the assets of our work into a testbed program in
West Africa,as a virtual medical school with complementary MAMASnet community
programs-- (see attached concept and reference docs).
First focus is on maternal-newborn mortality prevention but the infrastructure
could be designed to support broader applications for medical, nursing,
midwifery, health administration education and from strategic community
organizing perspectives (MAMASnet).
MAMASnet is confirmed to be based on the Mercy Ship which travels along
Africa's West Coast, now in Monrovia Liberia and soon in Sierra Leone.
We are hoping to build on and incorporate three frameworks for activity:
1) Global University System (GUS);
2) IIME, Global Minimum Essentials Requirements
3) WWAMI, based at UW.
These structures could serve as basis for a virtual medical and nursing school
(incl. midwifery and health administration), anchored in West Africa at Noguchi
Institute but with first pilot programs in (Sierra Leone, Liberia,
Guinea)anchored aboardthe Mercy Ship.
With policy base at Noguchi Institute, Ghana, and operational based in the
sub-region on the Africa Mercy (see links and attached document.) we are
hopeful that in US the "head end" could be at UW and in cooperation
with WWAMI-member institutions. We are already working closely with University
of Alaska, both Anchorage and Fairbanks.
University of Washington (I will send meeting summary later today)
I am in contact with Dr. Tom Norris, WWAMI, have had excellent meetings with
Dr. David Eschenbach, Chair UW ONGYN, Dr. Brian Ross and Dr. Rick Satava, Dr.
Blake Hannaford, UW ISIS team (telesurgery) and Dr. Paul Yager, Chair of
Bioengineering.
ATA and TATRC
Also, American Telemedicine Association (ATA) has confirmed strong interest in
partnership as liaison to industry and with focus on inter-operability of
systems in target countries. TATRC has invited proposals which I think need to
be submitted from UW, when relationships are confirmed. US DOD and TATRC have
interest in this project for future uses to support civilian health
infrastructure in Afghanistan, Iraq,
other.
We would like to explore, with Dr. Schwartz, affiliation with IIME and with GUS
a program prototype with Dr. Utsumi's leadership. I have been much intrigued by
IIME http://www.iime.org/gmer.htm
work in China and hopeful that a similar approach could be used in Africa with
GUS network:
