Dear John:
(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I) in response to my following list distribution;

(2) I greatly appreciate to receive this very philosophical msg.
In reference to your third para of your msg, I present the following slide;

(3) Thanks to the rapid advancements of Information and Communication
Technologies (ICTs) and transportation, our world is getting smaller and
smaller, and hence we definitely need a new ethos. As I mentioned
elsewhere often, this may correspond to the cross-pollination of various
civilizations to create a new global civilization.
I look forward to receiving your note on it, since it may become the core of
GUS philosophy as accommodating the ÒUnity-in-DifferenceÓ -- the last line of
the above slide.
Your note would also be appreciated by Kaisa.
(4) Referring to your last para, I am always amazed with the FinnishÕs
excellent achievements.
I mentioned of the DAVOS ranking of Finland as the world #1 on education and
training in my following list distribution;

(1) "Cultural Bridges 2007" Event, (2) Signing MOU ceremony at the
University of Tampere, (3) Visiting Tallinn University and others

Recently, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
announced the following;
The
OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)
<http://www.oecd.org/document/22/0,3343,en_2649_201185_39713238_1_1_1_1,00.html>
The top performer in science in this PISA 2006 was
Finland.
Subsequently, I am very delighted to work with them on the creation of our GUS.
Keep in touch -- hope to see you at our next Columbia University seminar.
Best, Tak

(12/02/07) English and Japanese translation of three Finnish books
Dear Takeshi:
I
am amazed at your ability to handle so much communications following like an
avalanch. But I have not been able to respond to them in any significant
manner. I am nevertheless chewing them to my purpose of globalizing
mythic grasping of social reality in our time.
. In the
tribal days the mythic approximation to reality was done in terms of
tribal ethos, in the national and imperial days similar mythic pyramids were
erected. What is needed is to globalize a mythic understanding of the
social reality, or what Plato says approximation to Truth, or what Buddha says
accommodated Truth, or what Upanishads and Kant regard as 'conceptual Truth' as
distinct from Truth in Itself, unknowable. Creativity, 'creative
distruction', the duality need to be reconciled as necessary aspects of the
continum.
What we
need are not tribal or national, or imperial pyramids under which we
would like to subsum 'other cultures,' but a multifliate, centrifugal, lotus,
or center and the circule type of mind set to accommodate all cultures in
various petals, or sectors, but rooted in the center. We need some
basic central 'mythos' (Aristotle, a framework to hold a generalized
explanation) to live by, as main springs of emerging civilization of
Information revolution. That will be one of the necessary adjunct to GUS.
I
am in the middle of a work in progress on the topic, about which I will send
you a note later.
Secondly,
I agree with your statement that "Finland can be the leading country with
vision based on sound moral, which everyone is longing for!" During
my visit to Finland in the summer, I learned that Finland is the only country
that broadcasts, contemporary news in Latin! When i asked to Professor
Vaino Kaukonen of Helsinki University, who is listening to that program, he
mentioned that according to Neilson's Report 15 million world wide, Scientists,
Doctors, Pharmacists, Scholars and others (not necessarily
Catholics) who had struggled with conjugations and declensions, are brushing up
to the oral musicality of the language. It was ingenious of
Jyvaskyla University to do so. Well Nokia is not backward in coming forward in
the new oncoming revolution.
