Dear Heikki Maenpaa:
(4) My wife, Hisae, and
I really enjoyed the wonderful evening concert at the Tampere Hall for your
50th birthday cerebration. Your composed music was so lovely with your
daughterÕs beautiful singing.

Dear Dr. Fukui:
(5) My wife, Hisae, and I sincerely
thank you for your following DVD gift;
ÒUltrasound
of My Mind: In the Digital World Life is AnalogÓ by Heikki Maenpaa, which was performed at the
17th Meeting of Japan Association of Breast Thyroid Sonology held in Fukuoka,
Japan on November 4, 2006.
We enjoyed viewing and listening it very much — HeikkiÕs trio was
wonderful, indeed!!
Dear Mr. Takeshi Matsumoto and Ms. Yoko Ito at Higashiyama Kaii Gallery
in Nagano City:
(6) Heikki Maenpaa and others greatly appreciated your greeting to his 50th
birthday, and my presentation of HigashiyamaÕs arts, which were sent to me by
Ms. Ito — see <http://preview.tinyurl.com/3ck7p6>.
Thanks you very much, indeed.
II. Signing MOU ceremony:
(A) Finland as World #1 in Education and Training:
(7) My wholehearted congratulations to Finland for the world #1 ranking in the
fields of higher education and training, which was recently made by the Global
Competitiveness Report 2007-2008 of the World Economic Forum (the so-called
DAVOS Forum) in Switzerland -- see <http://www.gcr.weforum.org/>,
Subindex B: Efficiency enhancers/5th pillar: Higher education and training.
(B) UNEVOC Center Award:
(8) My another congratulation greeting is for the UNEVOC Center Award to the
University of Tampere!! -- see their letter of November 9th, 2007 <Finland
copy.pdf><http://preview.tinyurl.com/35r5sy>.
(9) I am particularly delighted with the DAVOS ranking and this UNEVOC Award,
since the University of Tampere plays the major role in this field in Finland,
particularly in the vocational training under the leadership of Tapio Varis.
In a sense, we are very much honored and privileged to have been able to
undergird their activities, especially in the age of globalization of this 21st
century.
(C) Singing MOU ceremony:
Dear Rector Kesici, Prof. Saritas, Prof. Dogdu, and Mr Cakir:
(10) It was certainly our great pleasure to have met with you again, after we
really enjoyed our visit to your TOBB Economic and Technology University (ETU)
in Ankara, Turkey, by your generous invitation about a year ago.
I was very much delighted to attend the signing MOU ceremony by Rector Tahsin
Kesici of the TOBB ETU, Vice-Rector Arja Rapo of the University of Tampere, and
Acting President Tapio Varis of Global University System (GUS);

III. Possible E-Courses:
Dear Heikki Hallantie:
(11) It was my great pleasure to have met with you again at Hotel Cumulus
nearby Helsinki airport in the evening of 11/14th — since when we had a
wonderful time together to have been invited by the TOBB ETU people about a
year ago. I was very glad to hear of your entertaining the TOBB people on
November 8th and of your strong willingness to work together with TOBB people.
Dear Prof. Saritas and Prof. Dogdu:
(12) I am very happy that Mr. Cakir and I could arrange the MOU among those
institutions, particularly the TOBB ETUÕs affiliations with the higher
educational institutions in Finland, which are ranked the world #1, as
mentioned above.
Now, your next step is to realize e-course/e-learning between Finland and
Turkey.
Pls visit the web sites of Helsinki University of Technology and the University
of Tampere and select 2 to 3 courses each from them, which your students may
wish to take from Ankara. You may utilize the following questionnaires;

and others — I will inform about these steps which I discussed with
Tapio, in my msg to you later.
IV. Book Translation:
Dear Dr. Klaus Oesch:
(13) It was my great pleasure and privilege to attend the session of defending
your doctoral dissertation and also enjoyed your dinner party offered to me and
Mrs. Utsumi in the afternoon of November 10th, though I could not understand
any of the discussions and table speeches in Finnish;

along with our following projects;
Quantitative

(GSEEED) Project
http://preview.tinyurl.com/337nrn
I
would like to talk with you about it more later, should you be interested in
it.
Dear Kaisa:
(15) It was certainly our great pleasure to have met with you again after so
many years since we met at our workshop at the University of Tempere in August
of 1999 <http://www.uta.fi/%7etitava/EGEDL/>.
I sincerely thank you for your following book;
(a)
Kaisa Kautto-Koivula and Marita Huhtaniemi
ÒRENGISTA ISANNAKSIÓ (In
Finnish)
ÒFrom Hiredman (slave?) to Master: Free from the leash of the Quartal
EconomyÓ
Introduction of the Book
<Kaisa_book_summary.pdf><http://preview.tinyurl.com/yq7hlt>
According to you, this is the sequel of your following paper;
(b) Kaisa Kautto-Koivula and Marita Huhtaniemi, Nokia Ventures Organization
"Evolution Towards Human-Centric Knowledge
Society. Can Societies Learn from Global Corporations?"
<http://preview.tinyurl.com/y5ja49>
The
last sentence of this paper said;
ÒThe
biggest barrier for new development of Human-Centric Knowledge Society is our
Industrial Age mindset!Ó
Incidentally, the above paper is in the Part III of our following book;
Global Peace Through The Global University System
Tapio Varis - Takeshi Utsumi -
William Klemm (Eds.)
University of Tampere, Finland 2003
ISBN 951-44-5695-5
The entire contents of this book can be retrieved at;
http://tinyurl.com/kofpf
In
the bottom line of this page, you can find the following;
ÒInterview with Takeshi UtsumiÓ by Parker Rossman
http://tinyurl.com/fnxxt
I also greatly appreciated
that you brought the following book for me;
(c) Dahlman, C., J. Routti, P. Yla-Anttila
ÒFinland as a Knowledge Economy: Elements of Scuccess and Lessons LearnedÓ
World Bank Institute (2006)
Overview in English <Finland as a Knowledge Economy copy.pdf><http://preview.tinyurl.com/ysf5e6>
(16) As I mentioned to you, I would very much like to have Japanese
translations of those books.
This is because DAVOS ranking of Japan is slipping down year after year, and I
wish to stop it as introducing (*) the know-how of how and why Finnish
accomplished such a high ranking in education and vocational training as
mentioned in Items (6) and (7) above — my hunch of why of Japanese
slipping is that they havenÕt realized yet what you said ÒThe biggest
barrier for new development of Human-Centric Knowledge Society is our
Industrial Age mindset!Ó because
their first priority is still to get the MATERIAL wealth.
(*)
This is, in a sense, the reverse direction to Heikki MaenpaaÕs introducing
HigashiyamaÕs art to Finnish.
On the other hand, Finnish, as acquiring the world #1 ranking, has an honorable
duty and task to spread its know-how to other countries — after all,
Chinese proverb says ÒAcquiring knowledge is a joy, and sharing knowledge is an
ultimate joy!!Ó <Hierarchy of Information and Ethics_No back copy.pdf><http://preview.tinyurl.com/3d68lz>;

(17) H.E. Honda, Japanese Ambassador, assured me to
provide us with his supporting letter to the Japan Foundation when we apply for
the fund of the translations.
Pls talk about this project with Tapio and Klaus and send me your first draft
of the inquiring concept paper (say, 4 to 5 pages) to the Japan Foundation
after examining their web site <www.jfny.org> for guidance.
Dear
Mr. Tsujimoto and Mr. Akazawa:
I will come to your office as soon as I receive KaisaÕs draft to discuss how to
formulate this grant application to your foundation.
However, Mr. Honda said to me that there is no linguistic expert who know both
Finnish and Japanese well, so that the books have to be translated first from
Finnish into English.
Once this is done, the English translations may also be good text books to
Turkish students — Tapio indicated me the possibilities of your and Klaus
teaching them, if Turkish wants — in a sense, killing many birds with one
stone.
Dear Timo:
(18) It was our (my and my wife, HisaeÕs) great pleasure to have met with you
again after we met at our workshop at your university in August of 1999.
I am very happy to know that you have now a happy family with three boys, and
finishing up your doctoral dissertation soon.
I am very much grateful for your giving me your following paper;
ÒSynchronous
and asynchronous communication in online problem-based learning,Ó which is in Pages 91 to 104 of;
Esa Poikela & Anna Raija Nummenmaa (eds),
ÒUnderstanding Problem-Based Learning,Ó
Tampere University Press
ISBN 951-44-6829-5
The paper sounds very interesting, in view of our future plan on the training
of young would-be decision makers with a peace gaming — see;
Quantitative
Policy Analysis of Global Socio-Economic-Energy-Environment Development
(GSEEED) Project
<http://preview.tinyurl.com/337nrn>
LetÕs keep in touch for the possible participation of your expertise to this
project in the near future.
V. My Keynote Speech:
(19) Pls visit the slide presentation of my keynote speech made in the
afternoon of November 9th at the University of Tampere at the Section 3 of the
URL mentioned in the
"Cultural
Bridges 2007"
University of Tampere, Finland
November 9, 2007
<http://preview.tinyurl.com/3ck7p6>
Dear Mikko Ahonen:
(20) Many thanks for your technical support for my talk.
Many thanks also for your giving me the write-up by Yukari Makino <Makino
Project Outline.pdf><http://preview.tinyurl.com/35c764>,
which may go along with TimoÕs approach mentioned above.
Dear Keiso Katsura:
(21) I am very happy that you could view my talk at your university in Osaka,
Japan, via Internet.
What is the speed of your universityÕs Internet trunk line to outside world?
At
our workshop at the University of Tampere in August of 1999, Timo (mentioned
above) connected with Montana State University (MSU) with good audio and video
quality — at that time, MSU had 45 Mbps and the University of Tampere
campus at 10 Mbps. Since then, videoconferencing via Internet is getting
common practice — yet, we need, at least, 10 Mbps down/2 Mbps up for good
quality connection.
I took the liberty of admitting you and Makino into our list so that you will
be kept updated with our daily progress. Pls enjoy reading it.
BTW, pls inform me your full address so that I can include you at an
appropriate location in our mailing book.
Dear Tapio:
(22) If your technician kept the video of my talk, pls send it to me at your
convenient time. Thanks.
VI. Visit to Tallinn University:
Dear Ms. Kelberg:
(23) Many thanks for your recent msg of 11/15th, and, of course, many thanks
also for your kind arrangements for my talk at your university on November 12th
and our stays at a guest house.
We really enjoyed our stay in a beautiful town of Tallinn, albeit a bit cold.
(24) Pls visit my slide presentation at <http://preview.tinyurl.com/22coaj>.
BTW, you could not access the web site for the map of the City of Tallinn at <http://kaart.tallinn.ee> as using
your universityÕs Internet at 2 Mbps down and 256 Kbps up. However, when
I tried it at my home in NYC, I could immediately get to it through an Internet
cable at 10 Mbps down and 0.5 Mbps up speed.
Since Estonia already has 2.5 Gbps to outside world <GEANT2 copy.pdf><http://preview.tinyurl.com/2kbngt>,
your university may be able to upgrade to the so-called Internet2 at, at least,
45 Mbps, if your university try to form a consortium with other higher
educational and healthcare institutions (e.g., GUS/Estonia) to share the high
cost of the broadband Internet trunk line. This will enable your
university people to conduct videoconferencing through the broadband Internet
around the world at almost free of charge.

(25) Pls convey our thanks to Edward who took us to
an electronic shop and arranged a taxi for our going back to a hotel.
His quest is right direction, i.e., to quantify the cause of human activities
to the global warming. He may then be interested in our GSEEED project
mentioned in Item (18) above. Pls ask him to send me a short msg so that
I would include him in our list distribution so that he would be able to be
kept updated with our daily progress.
Pls also convey my best personal regards to your Rector Raud — I was very
sorry I could not have time to meet with him due to his very busy schedules.
Dear Kari:
(26) Many, many thanks for your kind arrangement with Ms. Kelberg and the hotel
in Helsinki.
Everything went quite all right for us, thanks to your effort. Sorry I
could not meet with you this time.
Dear Ksenia:
(27) It was certainly my great pleasure to have met with you at the harbor of
Helsinki when I just arrived from Tallinn, Estonia, even though you were just
leaving to St. Petersburg by bus — our last meeting was via
videoconferencing on May 26 of 2005!!
As mentioned, I will ask your help to our Black Sea Ring project in my next msg
— meanwhile, pls visit my following previous list distribution;
(09/19/07)
Possible GUS/Romania with Black Sea Ring

Pls update your address at the end of this msg below with the one at Taganrog
