Dear Bobbi:

(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I
) and very interesting information — I am taking the liberty of disseminating them to our list members;

(b) Curriki - Global Education & Learning Community/Bringing Curricula into the Participation Age
<Curriki_White_Paper_final Dec 22 2006.pdf> <http://tinyurl.com/36wjl3>

This is an excellent write-up.  I wholeheartedly agree with what you say in this article as;

Ò
Though it will require a sustained and persistent effort, the time is now to begin building a community among those who can contribute or teach and those who want to learn, to freely share and support universal access to quality curricula.  Development of an extensive repository of Open Source Curriculum is the key to eliminating the Education Divide and providing universal, equal educational opportunities.Ó

Ò
Freely sharing through community is the right thing to do for educating an increasingly interdependent global population in the Participation Age.Ó

Dear E-Colleagues:

I strongly suggest that you read this article.

Dear Parker:

Referring to your recent msg, pls read through this material, particularly about WiKiBook, which technology may be applicable for your project.

You may also consider the use of Bill KlemmÕs FORUM/MATRIX — see;

Dear Ed:

Many, many thanks for your kind introduction to her.

I went through all of the information with great interest.  I think you are in the right direction along with Scott McNealyÕs (Chairman of Sun Microsystems) idea.

I also would like to sincerely congratulate your Curriki activity being mentioned in the recent TIME magazine.

(2) We would be very delighted if you would be willing to work with us to transplant your know-how to various developing countries along with the creation of our Global University System (GUS).

Dear Fouad:

(3) Pls go through all of BobbiÕs info, and consider if you can apply her technology for constructing open source courseware for middle and high school curriculums, which may be made jointly by your colleagues in Palestine and Israel.

This may use inexpensive laptop of INK Media <INKJRS copy.pdf> <INKJRS copy.ppt> <http://tinyurl.com/3dh45a>, too.

Dear Jonathan:

Many thanks for this wonderful slide presentation.

Best, Tak

Dear Mr. Utsumi,

I am writing to follow-up on the suggestion from Mr. Ed Dodds that your work with the GLOSAS might find Curriki - the Global Education and Learning Community, of interest.  I also want to introduce myself as Curriki's Executive Director. In 2006, Sun Microsystems, the founder of Curriki, formed an independent 501 (c) (3) organization to accelerate and focus the open source curricula development effort.  Curriki is the first and only all-embracing internet site instituted to develop, aggregate, evaluate, and support the best of open source curricula.

I am sending the attached information on Curriki for your review. I hope that you will find it of interest and would consider discussing ways Curriki could work with GLOSAS to support our important education mission.  I believe you will find the mission of Curriki valuable in transitioning students from secondary education to higher education.

I am enclosing a white paper on Curriki and our FAQ along with a recent news article about our work. Please take the time to explore our site at www.curriki.org and let me know if you need any additional information or if you have any questions. I hope we will be able to arrange a time to meet in the near future to explore ways to work together.

DR. BARBARA ÒBOBBIÓ KURSHAN BIOGRAPHY

Executive Director
Dr. Barbara ÒBobbiÓ Kurshan has honed her vision of what can be using technology while supporting the growth of new companies and also developing new innovative software products.  She developed the first children's software products for Microsoft - Creative Writer and Fine Artist - and also created award-winning products for McGraw-Hill, Apple, CCC (Pearson) and others.

As a professor, Dr. Kurshan helped students research the impact of technology on learning.  She also has published articles based on personal research, exploring women's attitudes toward technology, children's computer usage tendencies, and new ways of learning.  Dr. Kurshan authored the first introductory computer science textbook on VAX Basic designed to teach practical programming applications.  She has been quoted in many influential journals, such as School Library Journal, and serves as a reviewer and advisor to research projects for the National Science Foundation and other government and business groups.

Through her venture fund Core Learning Group, she invested in bigchalk.com, an education portal providing homework help, teaching resources, and teacher professional development. Dr. Kurshan also served as Chief Education Officer of this award-winning site.  In the short span of two years, bigchalk's click-through rate of students, teachers and parents exceeded AOL@school for sponsors such as Target's Tiger Woods Make a Wish Foundation.

Dr. Kurshan has served on the Board of Directors of several education technology companies, including Headsprout and Fablevision.  Currently she serves on the board of International Education & Research Network, an international global education organization, and among numerous honors, Dr. Kurshan received the Education Academic Society's ÒMaking It HappenÓ Award and the Highest Leaf Award from the Women's Venture Fund.  She has also served on the Board of Directors for United Way of Roanoke, Community School, and Mill Mountain Theater and is listed in Who's Who in Technology Today.

Dr. Kurshan brings to Curriki the three pillars to grow the organization: start-up and fundraising experience, curriculum development and product evaluation skills and technology expertise.

Tak Utsumi has been building a global university alliance for some time now
which might make a nice partner with curriki when it comes to students
making transition to higher education.

You two may have crossed paths already but I pass this as an e-troduction in
case not.
