e-intro between Dr. Takeshi Utsumi and Dr. Rafit Lafiti.
Dear Dr. Utsumi and Dr.
Lafiti,
Please consider this an
"e-intro" between you both. I am including links for Dr. Rafit
Latifi, surgeon and on faculty at University of Arizona, founder of the Kosovo
Telemedicine Project http://www.surgery.arizona.edu/faculty/Latifi.htm.
http://www.iveh.org/
Interview: http://www.hoise.com/vmw/05/articles/vmw/LV-VM-06-05-7.html.
Dr. Utsumi can respond with his own information. I am also copying Dr. Hon Pak
and Nancy Brown-Connolly. (see note below)
Dr. Hon Pak (US Army
TATRC and ATA) has introduced me to telemedicine consultant, Nancy
Brown-Connolly at TATRC, and she strongly suggested that I call Dr. Lafiti.
Now we have just spoken an hour ago and I am excited that the two of you
connect in regard to strengthening ties between GUS/MAMAS and Dr. Lafiti's work
in Kosovo, to learn from each other, and potentially to cooperate on both our
GUS/MAMAS projects currently in planning phases, and perhpas also to start a
process for GUS/MAMAS in the Balkans with approach to Japan ODA for broadband
and technologies for e-health.
I am personally hopeful
that we can increase cooperation between the American and Japanese Telemedicine
Associations for cooperation on these prototype programs. Dr. Latifi is
also working with the Alaskans, as am I, and perhaps there might be interest in
MAMAS telemedicine/women's health empowerment extending his existing
infrastructure for increased women's participation in health services.

proposed meeting
between you next Monday:
Dr. Latifi will be in
NYC next Monday on his way to South America and I am hoping for the possibility
of your meeting. Now you have each others' email address. Tak's phone
number is: 718-939-0928 and I am told that he has availability on Monday. I
think that this could be an eventful meeting.
working with the
Alaskans:
Dr. Lafiti, I also have
included the AFHCAN model as a proposed component/partnership in our overall
MAMAS program. I will be interested to discuss further with you how closely
your Kosovo program cooperates with AFHCAN and its telemedicine systems. I have
not been able to figure out the relationship between Stewart F. and AFHCAN, am
working with Northern Forum (www.northernforum.org <http://www.northernforum.org>
) and International Union for Circumpolar Health (www.iuch.org <http://www.iuch.org> ), as well as CDC in Anchorage
for a community-based surveillance model in Siberia.
So now it is my
priviledge to intro you both with hopes that you can meet in NYC next Monday,
toward advancing all of our work together.
My best wishes to you
both,
Linda
