Report on Fact-Finding and Assessment Trip To Create Global University System/Altai Mir (now GUS/Siberia)
http://tinyurl.com/te6sb

This trip was made thanks to the generous fund of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which we received through the Eurasia Foundation.

(2) As you see in it, during this trip in the past September, we were overwhelmed with astonishing interest in our project at all the levels of governments, municipalities, higher educational and healthcare institutions — our meeting was even televised throughout entire Russia by a national TV program from Moscow!!

The uniqueness of this project is to utilize GLORIAD, which is a broadband Internet circling around northern hemisphere at 155 Mbps, which is soon to be upgraded to 622 Mbps, and to 2.5 Gbps in the near future.

Even though optical fiber networks have been emanated from Novosibirsk to nearby satellite cities, there werenÕt much awareness of the advantages and benefits of GLORIAD yet, not only in Novosibirsk but also in those cities.

This strong interest was mainly due to the fact that our GUS is to provide them with CONTENTS through the un-used, extra capacity of the already-existing GLORIAD.  Our GUS is to increase the usage of broadband Internet capacity with CONTENTS, thus realizing reduction of its usage price.

The broadband Internet is absolutely necessary, but how to use it effectively is more important for the development of the Knowledge Society in the 21st century.

(3) We subsequently identified several outstanding collaborative projects (see ANNEX 2 to 7).

We would be very, very busy to realize those projects with our Russian colleagues from now on!!

Best, Tak
