Dear Rita:

(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I
) about Supercourse of Global Health Network University at the University of Pittsburgh.  I visited its web site with great interest.  It is certainly impressive one.

I shall wait your first vision statement of GUS Tanzania/East Africa soon.

Dear Ronald:

(2) It has been some time since you once joined in our ÒGlobal Lecture Hall (GLH)Ó videoconference which was originated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in July 1994 which connected with a conference on distance education held in Moscow and many other universities in Europe and the US.  Since then, I met you at the mtg of Surgeon General Dr. Koop and the conferences of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Washington, DC several years ago.

(3) I read your essay in the attachment below, with great interest.

I agree with your contention 100%, i.e., if you have something to do after retirement, you can keep you young!!

(4) I also sincerely congratulate your accomplishment of establishing Global Health Network University <http://www.pitt.edu/~super1>.

As you know, we are creating Global University System (GUS), as focusing to set up the network of facilitators and learner support system which are often forgotten or ignored by many providers of distance education.

Thus, your system and ours may have well matched synergy.

(5) I just came back from my fact-finding and assessment trip to create GUS/Alta Mir in Novosibirsk and Altai region in Siberia.

We were overwhelmed with astonishing interest in our project at all levels of governments, municipalities, higher educational and healthcare institutions, NGOs, etc.

Dear E-Colleagues:

(6) Pls retrieve my following previous list distribution;

(a)
(09/21/06) (1) Fact-finding and assessment trip to create GUS/Altai Mir in Siberia and (2) Proposed direction for the Working Group on Infrastructure
http://tinyurl.com/pedfk

(b)
(09/23/06) Planning activity of the working group ÇGlobal Collaborative Research and DevelopmentÈ of GUS/Altai Mir
http://tinyurl.com/q7zuu

(c) (09/26/06) GUS/Alti Mir; Working Group on Community Development
http://tinyurl.com/jvaf4

This distribution is about the working group on ÒGlobal e-healthcare/telemedicineÓ out of 5 working groups mentioned in Item (6)-(a) above.

Dear two Alexanders at Novosibirsk State Medical Academy:

(7) It was certainly our great pleasure to have had the privilege of visiting your academy in Novosibirsk.

Dear Alexander:

I also sincerely thank you for your kind hospitalities and driving to Gorno-Altaisk.  It was such memorable days with you in beautiful Altai regions.

Pls convey our sincere thanks to Professor, Rector, Dr. Anatoly Ephremov for his kind support letter provided to us <http://tinyurl.com/ztavn>.  It is certainly our great honor and privilege to receive it.

(8) Pls visit the URL of the Global Health Network University mentioned above.

Should you be interested in some of those courses, pls inform me, though there may have language difficulty.  This is because you indicated me of your desire to import some Continuing Medical Education (CME) program from the US.

We will then configure to organize a workshop, say, in Novosibirsk, to have meeting of the desired course instructors with your facilitators, learner supporters and learners.  We believe that such face-to-face mtgs would be crucial and vital necessity for the success of distance education, which are often ignored.

Distance education providers often forget tremendous capacity of human brain — for example, once you meet with someone, you can recall his/her face with the circumstances and surroundings when you talk with him/her over the phone even after many years.

After having such face-to-face meetings with instructors and learners at the latterÕs locations, they can more intimately communicate through email and list with occasional videoconferencing.  Bringing instructors to learners locations (rather than other way round) would keep brain drain, thus saving US$80,000/learner which is mentioned in RonaldÕs essay below.

Also, the essence of education is not mere transfer of knowledge, but inheritance of wisdom which can effectively be done with human contacts.

Dear Rita:

(9) Rector Ephremov of Novosibirsk State Medical Academy also requested me to locate some medical institutions for cooperative relationship.

Pls discuss this matter with Zena;

Zena Stein
Professor (Emerita) of Public Health (Epidemiology) and Psychiatry at Columbia University and Co-Director, HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies, New York State Psychiatric Institute

Pls convey her my sincere thanks for her providing us with a conference room last time for our discussion of forming GUS/NYC Chapter.

Dear Alexander:

The following persons have also already indicated their willingness to help our GUS project to name but a few;

Professor Rashid Bashshur, Ph.D. -- on CME
President of the American Telemedicine Association
Editor-in-Chief of the Telemedicine Journal
Director of Telemedicine

Dear Marina:

Pls translate the pertinent portion of the above to Alexander.  Pls also tell him that I am waiting his write-up in English to be included in our report to the Eurasia Foundation.  Thanks.

Dear Linda:

(10) Many thanks for your excellent summary of our fact-finding and assessment on
e-health/telemedicine in Altai region in Siberia <http://tinyurl.com/ndsno>.

You may also be very interested in visiting the URL of the
Global Health Network University mentioned above, since you are affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh.

Dear Carol:

(11)
Pls summarize the above (including LindaÕs reports mentioned above and about her three mtg reports in her recent msgs) and revised your next-to-final report to the Eurasia Foundation.  Thanks.
