The International Sociological Association (ISA) is a non-profit association for scientific purposes in the field of sociology and social sciences. The ISA was founded in 1949 under the auspices of UNESCO. The goal of the ISA, is to represent sociologists everywhere, regardless of their school of thought, scientific approaches or ideological opinion, and to advance sociological knowledge throughout the world. Its members come from 109 countries.
The ISA is a member of the International Social Science Council and enjoys a status of the Non-Governmental Organization in formal associate relations with UNESCO and special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
Internal Organization
The affairs of the ISA are governed by the Assembly of Councils which is composed of all members of the Council of National Associations and the Research Council.
The Council of National Associations consists of one delegate from each member country. The Research Council is composed of representatives of all Research Committees and sponsors scientific activities of the ISA. The rules of functioning of the Research Committes are detailed in Aims and Requirements for Research Committees.
Every four years at the time of the World Congress, the Assembly of Councils elect the President and Vice-Presidents. Each Council elects 8 members of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee administers the affairs of the Association between these meetings, while the ISA Secretariat executes the decisions and handles administrative matters. Officers of the Executive Committee serve on at least one of the following sub-committees:
• Research Coordinating Committee
• National Associations Liaison Committee
• Membership and Finances Committee
• ISA delegates of ISA to other international organizations
The Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology of the University Complutense in Madrid is the host of the Secretariat. Activities of the ISA are financed about 90% from membership dues and sales of publications and 10% from grants of UNESCO/ISSC.
Research Committees
The on-going scientific activities of the ISA are decentralised in Research Committees, Working Groups and Thematic Groups, each dealing with a well recognized specialty in sociology. These groups bring together scholars who wish to pursue comparative research on a transnational basis and they constitute basic networks of scientific research, intellectual debate and professional exchange.
Asociación Internacional de Sociología - AIS
La Asociación Internacional de Sociología (AIS) es una organización sin ánimo de lucro con fines científicos. La AIS se fundó bajo los auspicios de la UNESCO. Su finalidad es representar a todos los sociólogos en cualquier lugar, con independencia de su escuela de pensamiento, enfoque científico o ideología y la promoción del conocimiento sociológico a escala internacional. Los miembros de la AIS provienen de 109 países.
La AIS es miembro del Consejo Internacional de Ciencias Sociales y goza del estatus de Organización No-Gubernamental en sus relaciones con la UNESCO.
Organización Interna
La Asociación Internacional de Sociología está gobernada por la Asamblea de Consejos compuesta por todos los miembros del Consejo de Asociaciones Nacionales y del Consejo de Investigación.
El Consejo de Asociaciones Nacionales se forma con un delegado de cada pais miembro. El Consejo de Investigación se compone de representantes de todos los Comités de Investigación y patrocina las actividades científicas de la AIS. Cada cuatro años, durante el Congreso Mundial, la Asamblea de Consejos elije al Presidente y Vicepresidentes. Cada Consejo elige 8 miembros del Comité Ejecutivo, que administra los asuntos de la Asociación en el período entre congresos. El Secretariado lleva a cabo las decisiones y maneja los asuntos administrativos.
Los miembros del Comité Ejecutivo tienen funciones en algunos de los siguientes subcomités:

• Comité de Enlace entre las Asociaciones Nacionales
• Comité del Programa
• Comité de Finanzas y Afiliación

La Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociología de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, España, acoge la sede de la AIS. Las actividades de la Asociación están financiadas en un 90% por las cuotas de sus afiliados y la venta de publicaciones, y un 10% por una subvención de la UNESCO/ISSC.
Comités de Investigación
Las actividades científicas de la AIS están descentralizadas en Comités de Investigación, Grupos de Trabajo y Grupos Temáticos. Cada Comité está especializado en un campo concreto de la sociología. En estos grupos colaboran académicos que tratan de hacer una investigación comparativa desde un punto de vista transnacional y constituyen redes de investigación científica, de debate intelectual e intercambio profesional. Association Internationale de Sociologie - AIS
L'Association Internationale de Sociologie (AIS) est une association à but non lucratif et aux objectifs scientifiques. L'AIS a été fondée en 1949, sous les auspices de l'UNESCO. L'Association a pour objet de représenter les sociologues partout dans le monde, sans prendre en considération leur école de pensée, leur approche scientifique ou leur idéologie et de faciliter et de promouvoir la recherche en sociologie à l'échelle internationale.
L'AIS est membre du Conseil International des Sciences Sociales et bénéficie de un statut de Organization Non-Gouvernemental auprès de l'UNESCO et d'une catégorie consultative avec le Conseil Economique et Social de Nations Unis.
Organisation Interne
L'Association Internationale de Sociologie est dirigée par l'Assemblé des Conseils composée de tous les membres du Conseil des Associations Nationales et du Conseil de Recherche.
Le Conseil des Associations Nationales est formé par un délégué de chaque pays membre. Le Conseil de Recherche est composé de tous les Comités de Recherche et supervise les activités scientifiques de l'AIS. Tous les quatre ans, pendant le Congrès Mondial de Sociologie, l'Assemblée des Conseils élit le Président et Vice-Présidents. Chaque Conseil élit 8 membres du Comité Exécutif, qui gérera les affaires de l'Association pendant la période entre les congrès. Le Secrétariat exécute les décisions et mène les affaires administratives.
