Yuletide 2005

Dear Friends and Electronic Colleagues:

A joyful holiday season has come.  Our warmest seasonÕs greetings to you.  We hope this message will find you well and fine.

Reflecting the past year with melodies of Christmas carols, we sincerely thank you for your continuing encouragement, support and cooperation for our various projects.  Without your help, our progress would not have been possible.  We are very pleased to inform you about the substantial developments of our projects.

In March, we were invited for TakeshiÕs delivering a talk about Global University System (GUS) and Globally Collaborative Environmental Peace Gaming (GCEPG) projects at the annual conference of the European Learning GRID Infrastructure (ELeGI) Project in Vico Equense (nearby Naple), Italy, for which he is a Science Advisory Board Member.  After taking memorable sight-seeing tours around Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Pompei, we flew to Milan to deliver his talk at the University of Milan and Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.  We enjoyed sight-seeing around Rome and ancient resort villa on our way back.

In May, Takeshi made his talk at the Infopoverty World Conference at the United Nations in Manhattan.  He also organized a large videoconferencing with his colleagues in Helsinki, Tampere, (both in Finland), Lithuania, Houston (Texas) and New York.

In October, he presented his opening speech at the annual conference of the prestigious American Association for Cybernetics in Washington, D.C.

In November, he attended the Conference on African Research and Education Networking Infrastructure and the UNESCO/High Level Round Table Forum; ÒShaping the Future through Knowledge,Ó and ÒThe Role of UNESCO in the Construction of Knowledge Societies through the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Program,Ó at the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis, Tunisia.
