Dear Sami:

(1) Many thanks for your msgs (ATTACHMENT I, II and III).

Dear E-Colleagues:

(2) You may recall our multicasting videoconferencing held on May 26th as connecting;

  1. CorStar, Inc., New York,
  2. Green Sphere, Inc., New York,
  3. Houston Community College, Texas,
  4. Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania,
  5. Taganrog State University of Radio Engineering, Russia,
  6. University of Helsinki, Finland,
  7. University of Tampere, Finland.

(3) The recorded video of this event is now available at <http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/andberg/video/GUS/>.

Click GUS.mov for QuickTime use,
Click GUS.wmv for Window Media use.

The previous list distributions related to this event are;

(05/27/05) Highly successful multicasting videoconference on May 26th
(05/24/05) Schedules and URLs of the multicasting videoconferencing on May 26th
(05/12/05) Useful features for e-learning
(03/27/05) Multicasting videoconference on May 26th
These can be accessed at the URL mentioned at the top of this msg.

You may notice in this recorded version that Roger Boston’s presentation was superb, particularly with very clear audio and video.

(4) Should you also wish to participate in the Megavideoconference of December 1st, pls contact Prof. Robert Dixon <Bob_Dixon@osu.edu> of Ohio State University at your earliest convenience — you need to have H323 videoconferencing unit -- see below for further info.

As having more than 375 participants in the last year event, this is probably the largest one to have videoconferencing only through broadband Internet — without any use of satellite dish antenna and viewing videoconferencing room, etc.

This clearly indicates that the day of analog broadcasting satellite videoconferencing is over, which I have done many of them with the so-called “Global Lecture Hall (GLH)” multipoint-to-multipoint, multimedia, interactive videoconferencing — see Chapter 2 of the following book draft;

Electronic Global University System and Services
http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Bookwriting/Contents_of_Book.html

Satellite approach was too expensive for regular use. In contrast to it, videoconferencing with H323 protocol takes the advantage of SHARING feature of packet-switching telecom, i.e. Internet, thus bringing drastic cost reduction.

We plan to have this kind of videoconferencing system as regular basis along with the Global University Phone System and Access Grid through Global Broadband Internet among member institutions (educational and healthcare) of GUS/UNESCO/UNITWIN Networking Chair program, which headquarters is now located at the University of Tampere as mentioned in our following previous list distribution;

(08/20/05) Skype and Global University Phone System
This archive can be retrieved at the URL indicated at the top of this msg.

(5) Referring to ATTACHMENT II and III, I then strongly suggest that you contact Prof. Dixon at your earliest convenience to participate in this event, if you have H323 videoconferencing unit so that you can test your capabilities for our future events.

Dear Frank:

(6) Pls let me know the results of your contact with Prof. Dixon ASAP — my last msg to you of this morning asked you to do so.

If accepted, I will prepare to participate in it after coming back from my trip to attend the WSIS in Tunis on 11/22nd.

Best, Tak

Hello Tak and Frank,

It's been quite a busy day here today, the videoconferencing bridge is once more somehow corrupted and is having same kind of problems than we had in the Global University Conference - the picture gets stuck for some sites, etc...

Anyway, I uploaded the files back to the server, altough this time the address is:

http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/andberg/video/GUS/

You should have the Windows Media and QuickTime version of the recording there.

I hope it works this time.

BR,
Sami
