Dear Jeff:

(1) Many thanks for your msgs (ATTACHMENT I
and II) and wish for my successful presentation of an opening speech at the conference of the American Society for Cybernetics to be held in Washington, DC, on 27th to 30th of October <http://www.ASC-Cybernetics.org/2005>.

(2) Thanks also for your following very interesting document;

THE DECLARATION OF SKOPJE ON PUBLIC HEALTH, PEACE & HUMAN RIGHTS
January 2001

I am taking the liberty of attaching it to this distribution (filename: Declaration Jeff.doc)

I also read your ASPHER Yerevan talk with great interest.

Dear Dennis, Chris and E-Colleagues in e-Healthcare field, especially in African countries:

(3) This document may be a very good reference for your constructing Nigerian national policy on e-healthcare, as mentioned in your following paper;

Oji, D. E., T. Utsumi and C. Uwaje, "International Centers of Excellence for e-Health in Africa with Global University System in Nigeria," Paper published in the eHealth International Journal, International eHealth Association (IeHA), University of Michigan Health System, September 25, 2005

(4) You may also be interested in this document, since it mentions of the human right issue from the angle of public health — which I did not mention in my last msg to you last night.

I wish you a very good luck for your organizing a successful event on this important issue.

Best, Tak

RE: Jay W. Forrester

Dear Tak,
Many moons ago I was director of a Section called Health Systems Dynamics in Chicago.
Jay Forrester was one of those lights in a distant sky who was able to chart the future course of our world (and humanity).
At some point I visited him with some biomedical engineer. In Greece years ago I translated some of his ideas into Greek for my students.
His world model with its four or five variables and a single outcome, quality of life, which was always difficult to define, opened up much more, the telescopes and microscopes with which to observe and think about our world. At the time I was in a department of biomedical engineering applying systems theory to vision research. I'm now in public health seeing health systems through the viewpoint of systems and communication theory.
Two things that i stuggled with then but not getting very far with, was the need for a new kind of sociologically oriented physician and the use of the concept of feedback as a universal basis for education.
I mentioned your name in passing in a talk I gave in Armenia a draft of which I enclose (see blue highlighting).
Best wishes
Jeff
