INVITATIONS TO GUS: SIERRA LEONE

Dear Tak,

I just returned from five weeks in Sierra Leone and Guinea. I am happy to report that much was accomplished and ties to local colleagues and institutions were strengthened.

MAMaS Project has been selected as lead program for strategic communications addressing HIV/AIDS  under the Mano River Union (MRU) Secretariat, bridging borders of four countries. (Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Ivory Coast) I have made it clear that we are affiliating with GUS and there is much excitement about both MAMaS (as decision support, e-health and distance education with access to African Development Bank funding) and GUS (as larger network of peers, parallel programs, planning strategies, and with GUS access to Japan ODA resources).

I am attaching letters of endorsement and invitation directed to you from the University of Sierra Leone, Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (premier teachers' training institution), and from the Ministry of Health, Government of Sierra Leone. I expect invitations to you will arrive via email from the Ministry of Education and from the Principal of University of Sierra Leone, College of Medicine and Allied Sciences.

After receiving our contracts from the Mano River Union Secretariat, an invitation will be issued to GUS from Hon. Dr. Abdoulaye Diallo, Secretary General. of MRU and representing agreements for collaboration by those member states.

I look forward to discussion regarding next steps; hope you are well and enjoying this early summer,.

Linda
