1. (04/05/05) Ethiopia is now
leapfrogging on ICT (filename: 04-05-05-b.doc, attached to this msg)
2. (03/30/05) Broadband Internet in
the US and Ethiopia (filename: 03-30-05.doc, attached to this msg)
(3) As mentioned in the Item (2)-(b) above, the Multimedia Broadband Internet
(MBI) project of the Ethiopia Telecommunication Corporation of the Ethiopian
government received US$40 million from the Japanese governmentÕs Official
Development Assistant (ODA) fund to install terrestrial optical fiber network
at 3 Gbps for connecting major universities and hospitals around Ethiopia.
(4) EthiopianÕs next task is to configure how to effectively utilize the
broadband Internet, particularly with e-learning and e-healthcare/telemedicine.
We proposed our Ethiopian colleagues this matter along with the establishment
of GUS/Ethiopia — see the materials in the Item (2)-(a) above which were
mostly composed by Berhanu.
(5) Prof. Fekadu Mulugeta is now working on the construction of a funding
inquiry material for organizing a workshop to initiate this activity.
